My Avatar
As some of you know, I’m an avid music lover and a guitarist. I’ve written and played quite a bit of music, and so I’ve decided that I’m going to release a CD. I’m not yet certain how many songs or which songs will end up on the disc, but it’s likely that the CD will be mainly acoustic. I may include some other background instruments, as time provides. The best title I’ve come up with for the CD is Good Mourning. I’ll release more information about the compact disc and when it will be available as soon as I have set a date and decided on the final cut of songs.

Part Time Job to Go Please?

21 June 2005 7.11 pm
Personal

One of these days, I am sure to kill someone. In case you’re interested why, I will explain.

The past month has been a job hunt for me. I’ve applied at Target, Home Depot, Circuit City, Barnes and Noble, Bed Bath and Beyond, and numerous others. I also recieved a telephone call from Target, summoning me to an interview. I went to the interview and all seemed to go quite well as their front-end manager liked me. Suprisingly, three days after, I got a letter saying “We don’t want you here. You’re worthless and we don’t need people like you around,” except in a more professional manner. I spare the details.

You’d think that finding a job where I live would be easy, right? Not so. It would seem that every teenager would have been on the same quest, stealing all the jobs in front of me. I’m getting so frustrated with places, managers, and customer service reps. I’ve officially decided to find an alternative to Target, as horrible as that may seem. Hopefully I won’t have to sink to the level of Wal-Mart.

Also, if anyone reading this has connections that could help me out, please let me know. Otherwise, I’ll be screwed for college books. Loans aren’t exactly fun, student or not.

You Should Have Believed Them

Political

Everyone who thought that Terri Schiavo wasn’t in a persistent vegetative state was wrong. The autopsy of the late Terri Schiavo revealed

“The damage was irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons.” (Jon Thogmartin, the medical examiner who led the autopsy)

I will side with both parties here. Her death is saddening, and it is horrible that she even ended up in that state. It is tragic that she ended up the way she did. As much as many of you think, it must have been God’s will for her. Mainly what I think about it is that she is with her Lord Jesus Christ now. All Believers can rejoice in that fact.

I realize that I was right in believing the doctors that stated she was in a persistent vegetative state, but I won’t rub it in. This isn’t something to be gloating about. Usually medical experts know what they’re talking about. But again, this is a lesson that would have to be learned at one time or another, sadly enough. I hope that people have learned from this experience, as tragic and depressing as it is.

Mr. Bush, you were wrong. I’d like an apology at this time.

I refuse to even touch the subject regarding why her husband wanted the plug pulled, as it is quite controversial, and I don’t want a flame war here. This is a place of acceptance, don’t make it a place of denial, intolerance and ignorance. Thank you all.

Reflections, Ripples, and Rain

A photograph I took while in Spokane. I found the pollen swirling under the water more interesting than the ripples and reflections, only to find that all of those elements add to the beauty.

Selective Service Stupidity

Personal

As every male 18 years of age or older knows, the government requires that you sign up for the “Selective Service System.” These days, it would seem that a lot of people are forgetting, so they’ve sent out cards, reminding you. Seems like a good idea, right? Most people would until you realize the amount of personal information that they put on a piece of cardstock sent in the mail with no envelope. Some of this information included my name, address, and worst of all, my Social Security Number. Could the government do anything more to try to get my identity stolen? The one piece of information that I wanted was my “Selective Service Number,” ironically having the same acronym as what they could have just been flying across the skies with, for everyone to see. I’m not certain who’s idea this was, but whoever decided to put my SSN on a two-sided card in the mail to a mailbox that isn’t locked or under 24-hour surveillance , is probably on par for being one of the dumbest people in the world. Now for the kicker. They wanted me to send the card back in, just to verify that the information was correct. Verify? Why not just give it away to an indentity thief? It turns out, there’s a better way to take care of your Selective Service business, and it’s something I may spend a little too much time on. The Internet. I did all my business with the SS online, with 128-bit encryption. That’s something that’s comforting. Now, think of the people who don’t have internet access. What are they supposed to do? I think this part of our government needs to rethink how they do the application process and verification, as it is highly flawed and dangerous. No American should have to take the risk of losing their identity.

SoBe: A Crappy Prize

6 June 2005 6.17 pm
Personal, Reviews

As I opened up a SoBe bottle, I found on the “1 in 12 scores” cap that I had “won” 3 free music downloads from buymusic.com. Prizes like this are usually a good find for me. In fact, any useful prize is wonderful. It also listed a phone number on the cap that I was instructed to call. I dialed, 1-800-569-7837, only to find that I had won nothing until I mailed the oddly-colored cap in to SoBe. Irritated, I contemplated this predicament. I’ve not only sent out 50 plus graduation announcements recently, but also thank you cards. Now I have to send in a stupid cap to get three MP3’s? Granted, postage is relatively cheap, but I think I might as well just buy from iTunes. I would rather do this so that I don’t fall into the marketing bear trap laid by buymusic.com and SoBe.

I’m still disappointed with SoBe, but I guess I’ll survive. A Buy One Get One Free Cap would have been better than this, but I guess I’ll have to survive without some free music. By the way, if any SoBe exec is reading this, I would like my Cooper Mini S you promised me.

Blog Design

Web Design, Blogging

As a lot of you know, I have a decent amount of experience in HTML and Photoshop, as well as numerous other web design softwares. Thus, I have been putting my talents into action by helping a friend of mine redesign his “multi-blogged” blog. For those of you who don’t know what that is, I’ll explain. A multi-blog is set up when a person wants one central blog, with others branching off of it, so that it would seem that it is just one large site. While John’s site has different looks for each part of the site, they have a very easily noticed resemblance to each of the other templates. If you’d like to see the work he and I have done, here is the link to the main site. You can navigate using the bar under the main header. Take note that his sites do not function in Internet Explorer correctly. This was done intentionally as a sort of a protest against Microsoft’s monopoly. Besides, why not switch to a better browser? We accomplished this through the use of PNG images, which IE does not like.
