Another Reason to Hate Utah State

In an article from the Associated Press that was published in the Daily Utah Chronicle (an independent student newspaper on campus), the Utah State University College Republicans have gone too far with their attempt to show their opposition to minority scholarships. The entire story isn’t available on the Chronicle’s website, so you can find the article here.

While the Spencer Taylor (President of College Republicans for Utah State) makes a good point, I think they’ve taken the idea too far. Using the fact that many college students, regardless of race, will do just about anything for some extra money to try to show that minorities reverse-discriminate is wrong. This type of racism is quite unnecessary.

Salt Lake City Peace Protests

There’s nothing more gratifying than seen people protest the Iraq War. Today, about 11:30 AM, I headed down to Pioneer Park, where Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson was speaking at a protest for the Iraq War. He spoke about how people thing that those of us who don’t support the war (but instead, the troops by wanting them home) are patriotic, but we are.

“Dissent is the highest form of patriotism” - Thomas Jefferson

This goes to show that even those of us who don’t agree with government policies are patriotic. Patriotism is defined as “Love of and devotion to one’s country.” (Dictionary.com) Nowhere does it say that a patriotic person can’t legitimately criticize their government.

While some of the protest signs were rather good, there were some that were promoting non-violence, which is even better than the protesting signs that promoted violence towards Bush or even members of our government. People can disagree without being violent.
The thumbnails below link to my Flickr page where you can see my pictures from the protest. I’ll have the videos uploaded shortly.

You Should Have Believed Them

Everyone who thought that Terri Schiavo wasn’t in a persistent vegetative state was wrong. The autopsy of the late Terri Schiavo revealed

“The damage was irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons.” (Jon Thogmartin, the medical examiner who led the autopsy)

I will side with both parties here. Her death is saddening, and it is horrible that she even ended up in that state. It is tragic that she ended up the way she did. As much as many of you think, it must have been God’s will for her. Mainly what I think about it is that she is with her Lord Jesus Christ now. All Believers can rejoice in that fact.

I realize that I was right in believing the doctors that stated she was in a persistent vegetative state, but I won’t rub it in. This isn’t something to be gloating about. Usually medical experts know what they’re talking about. But again, this is a lesson that would have to be learned at one time or another, sadly enough. I hope that people have learned from this experience, as tragic and depressing as it is.

Mr. Bush, you were wrong. I’d like an apology at this time.

I refuse to even touch the subject regarding why her husband wanted the plug pulled, as it is quite controversial, and I don’t want a flame war here. This is a place of acceptance, don’t make it a place of denial, intolerance and ignorance. Thank you all.
